Drake Comes Up Empty (0 - 6) At Juno Awards Show He Hosted

Apparently hosting the Canadian version of The Grammys doesn't guarantee you will take home an award, even if you're from Toronto.

Drake was shutout at the Juno Awards Sunday (March 27). Up for six total awards, Drizzy got shown the cold shoulder from his native country. Even losing out in the Best Rap Album category to to Shad.

Drake shouldn't feel too bad though, his 'Thank Me Later' cd is platinum and he's working on the highly anticipated follow up.

Justin Bieber, who won two trophies tweeted his support for Drizzy.

One of the pioneers of the West Coast's g-funk sound has passed away.

JA RULE HEADED TO PRISON IN JUNE

Ja Rule only has a few months left of freedom. The New York rapper is set to report to prison in June stemming from charges from a 2007 gun case.

A judge has marked June 8 as the first day of his two-year jail term, reports the AP. The sentence comes after the 35-year-old MC pleaded guilty in December to attempted weapon possession after police pulled him over for speeding following a concert at NYC’s Beacon Theatre. Upon inspection of the vehicle, they discovered a loaded gun in the car’s rear door, leading to his arrest.

Prior to his bid, the “Put It on Me” hitmaker will spend time completing his upcoming album The Renaissance Project, as well as handling tax issues.

Remembering Biggie: R.I.P. Notorious B.I.G. March 9th, 1997

Today – March 9th, 2011 – we remember the life and music of arguably the greatest MC to ever grace the stage; a man whose effortless style and lyrical flow has influenced countless rappers, like Diddy, Jay-Z and Lil Kim just to name a few. Born Christopher Wallace in Brooklyn, NY, the man known as Biggie, Big Poppa and Biggie Smalls to fans is known throughout the world as The Notorious B.I.G. – and we’re counting down some of his greatest music videos in remembrance.

The life of one of the greatest rappers of all time, The Notorious B.I.G. came to an end on this day 14 years ago.

Christopher Wallace was born on May 21st, 1972 in the Bed Stuy section of Brooklyn, New York. A high school drop out and local drug dealer, Wallace turned to music as his salvation for a better life. After catching the attention of producer Sean ‘Puff Daddy’ Combs, he signed a record deal with his music label Bad Boy records.

Wallace took on the stage name of The Notorious B.I.G. and electrified fans with his unique lyrical style. He continued to grow in fame in the mid 90s, so much so that he was one of the main parties involved in the infamous coastal rap war and more personally, rapper/actor Tupac Shakur. Wallace would eventually lose his life, along with Shakur, to gun violence at the age of 24.

His hit songs, “Big Poppa”, “Hypnotize” and “Mo Money, Mo Problems” were all GRAMMY nominated songs and his album Life After Death was nominated for Best Rap Album in 1998.

Wallace’s legacy continues to grow well after his death for not only being a great rapper, but also a proud New Yorker.

He is seen boxing, running a race, getting his head cut off, and feasting on lasagna in the varied scenes and wardrobe changes. Young Money’s rising star Cory Gunz spits his verse and other members of the YMCMB clique make cameos. Tunechi wakes up after splashing into a tub full of water.

Experience the dream within a dream below.

LIL WAYNE AND DRAKE JOINT ALBUM COULD ARRIVE BY YEAR’S END

Lil Wayne has been putting in work on his highly-anticipated album Tha Carter IV, but he’s got just as big a project on the horizon. Weezy recently addressed rumors of recording a full-length album with his protégé Drake, and that the rappers’ collaborative effort could hit stores by the end of the year.

“That right there, that’s always been in the making,” Tunechi told MTV News’ Sway Calloway. “We’ve always been in the studio or we’ve always been having conversations about let’s do something together. Let’s do an album together.”

The only conflict would be that Wayne has a few other projects he would have to knock out first. “I’ve had ideas to do an album with T-Pain. We’ve got the T-Wayne situation going, so Drake’s a very respectable dude. He’s like, ‘I don’t want to disrespect none of those situations, so I’m just going to wait ’til you have a real good moment to focus on you and I doing an album,’” he explained. “And then you know my obligations to the Like Father, Like Son albums with Stunna. It’s like no disrespect to those. I don’t want to clash with nothing.”

While the Young Money boss is high in demand for guest verses while recording Tha Carter IV, his collabo with Drake could come later this year. “I want it to be a year when [we] actually have a moment and we can do it. It’s coming up. Probably the end of the year if we work hard at it,” he said.

Additionally, the hip-hop martian revealed that three or four songs intended for last year’s I Am Not a Human Being may end up on TC4, and the rest will be fresh material. “I kept like, if any, about three or four songs. Everything else is brand new,” he shared. “It’s soon. Once you start shooting the video, that means it's ready!
